WordPress Squeeze Pages

How can I build a wordpress squeeze page or sales page?

I have used plugins in the past and they are always clitchy, looking for a sales page autoresponder theme. Don’t really want to $outsource as I plan on launching a number of blogs…thanks

It depends on your theme, but you said the magic word, “page”. See if you can find a theme that has optional layouts that include a 1-column template. I make all of my WordPress Themes with Artisteer. http://goo.gl/VV02Y Let me explain.

Usually, the layout of a theme is global. That is, no matter if you’re making a page or a post, the template applies to all. With Artisteer, of course you can create a theme without any sidebars so you have just a 1 column layout. However, even if you make a layout with sidebars, Artisteer automatically creates a 1 column layout on it’s own. It’s available for selection when you create a page (not a post). It retains your header and footer, but it doesn’t have the left or right sidebars. That way you’ve got a blank slate to create your squeeze or sales page.

I’m currently using the beta version 3.0 for Artisteer. It’s only been released to current customers and it’s the BOMB! They’ve added top and bottom sidebars and multi-column footers.

Here is a review site I created with nothing but 1-column pages. http://goo.gl/0VzjC

Also, I’ve used a plugin in the past that controls what’s displayed in the sidebars. Example: Say you have a sales page and you want your opt-in box in the right sidebar, but not on any other pages or posts. The plugin will allow you to do that. Let me see if I can find it. Hang on…here it is
Advanced Text Widget http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/advanced-text-widget/ Advanced Text widget that has extensive conditional options to display content on pages, posts, specific categories etc. It supports regular HTML as well as PHP code and shortcodes. You can stick your auto-responder code in it.

That plugin is hella slick for affiliate marketers, too. If you’re selling a particular product, instead of goobering up your content with banner ads and stuff, you can stick a 120×600 or 160×600 banner in the sidebars and then just have that banner display only on that particular post.

I did that with a web hosting review site. I wanted the same look and feel across the entire site, but each web hosting company had slightly different features. So I created a master table with WP-Table Reloaded http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-table-reloaded/ Then for each hosting company, I created a duplicate table from the master and then changed the duplicate as needed. Then I put the shortcode into an Advanced Text Widget and had it display only on the appropriate post.

Hope this helps.
